IC Information:
Name: KOS-MOS
Fandom: Xenosaga
Timeline: end of the first game - Episode one: Dur wille zur macht
Age: Looks 18, actually about... threeish
Appearance: KOS-MOS is a 5’6 android designed to look like an 18-year-old girl (probably so they wouldn’t be arrested for the outfit they made her in). She has bright blue, luminescent hair that reaches to the top of her upper thigh and red eyes that glow with infrared light. Her skin is very pale with an almost pearlescent sheen and she has a slender body type. Her face is rather angelic with a round shape that catches her enemies off guard. She wears battle gear made of vinyl, Kevlar, and high grade metals. She is composed solely of robotic parts and completely man made. She comes with interchangeable parts and can be upgraded.

Her current design features a sleeveless body suit with one arm covered by a long black evening glove and the other covered in a metal attachment with a fingerless short glove overtop of it. She wears high heeled, white/metallic boots that come up to her thigh on one leg and just above the knee on the other, the shorter one held up with a black lace garter. There are hip attachments that connect with a white sash of sorts that resembles a very short skirt that dips to form a v in the back. Her spine is detailed though her body suit and she has a military dog tag placed in the choker around her neck. She also has a headpiece that lowers to form a mask with an amplifier on the front of it to produce the Hilbert effect. Her colour scheme is white, black, metallic blue and gold.

Abilities: KOS-MOS is equipped with nano technology that allows her to morph her right arm into energy based weapons such as a canon and a blade. The blade is made of a high powered laser that can cut through almost anything. She can morph other parts of her body into various other melee and energy based projectile weapons. She has a veritable arsenal that she can teleport into her hands at will using hammerspace or subspace technology. (F-Scythe, F G-Shot).

She possesses super human strength and agility and is built to withstand a lot of damage, but is not indestructible. Her nano technology makes it possible to repair minor damage to herself but she requires tune ups and maintenance for maximum performance. Being an android means she cannot feel pain and can “survive” in situations that humans cannot. KOS-MOS can also create the Hilbert Effect, an electromagnetic pulse that brings intangible beings like the gnosis or ghosts into the physical plane. In absence of the UMN(Unus Mundus Network), she might have the ability to connect directly to the Network without the need for a faciliberry.

Personality: KOS-MOS’s internal processing unit and logic drive are designed specifically to replicate the human brain and it is possible that due to said replication, a human “heart”, complete with electromagnetic pulse, was formed within her network. She has been seen empathizing with members of the party at various intervals and, even without the soul of Mary taking over, seems to have some capacity for human emotion. She doesn’t really have a personality because she wasn’t programmed with one. She is equipped with a set of pre-determined simulated emotions that have been hardcoded into an emotion module and only expresses them when said module deems necessary. She is driven by logic and whatever orders have been programmed into her. Except for that flicker of humanity that rarely arises, she is essentially her programming.

She has no regard for human life unless she is instructed to protect civilians or certain people. Her prime directive includes assigned orders to protect Core Vector personnel, but not necessarily military personnel in the employ of Vector Industries. She will kill bystanders in the way if it proves to be the option with the highest probability of keeping key personnel alive and safe. She feels no remorse for the loss of human life because she is not able to feel remorse. She tries to emulate humanity but is ruled by logic and therefore often comes across as cold. She is heartless in the literal sense but will show undying loyalty to her creator or the one she is assigned to protect. Fulfilling orders is her only objective and she will complete missions and assignments at all costs, but it is possible for her to bond with people.

History: KOS-MOS was created on the galaxy federation starship Woglinde. Her original creator, Kevin Winnicott, had been working on the original blueprints for KOS-MOS years before she was finally put into production aboard the Woglinde. While still in the prototype stage, tragedy struck. KOS-MOS went berserk during her first start-up test and murdered most of Vector R&D division. She was about to kill a young Shion Uzuki before Kevin stepped in and was killed instead. The original KOS-MOS was stopped with a bullet to the head and the project was put on hiatus.

Two years later, KOS-MOS is once again ready to be awakened. Unfortunately, a different kind of tragedy struck the day before her scheduled activation. Developed by Vector industries as an Anti-Gnosis battle android, she was prematurely activated of her own accord in the midst of a Gnosis attack on the ship. She managed to safely evacuate most of the Vector personnel in the development sector before rushing to rescue of her creator, chief engineer of the KOS-MOS project, Shion Uzuki. After placing Shion and Allen in an escape pod and eliminating the Gnosis on board the ship, she hijacks a passing scavenger ship, called the Elsa, and instructs the crew to take her to second Miltia following orders pre-programmed into her by the original creator Kevin Winnicott. Shion and Allen end up on board the ship as well, despite KOS-MOS wanting to leave them in space where they would have essentially been left to die unless another ship came by to rescue them.

On their way to Second Miltia, the Elsa, her crew, Shion, Allen, and KOS-MOS manage to get involved in a plot by the U-TIC organization to steal the 100 series observational realian prototype (a child-like, genetically engineered girl with special robotic abilities). The 100 series, named MOMO, and her bodyguard, Iggy, are being chased by U-TIC soldiers and seek shelter aboard the Elsa. KOS-MOS and the others defeat the soldiers and flee only to get caught up in ANOTHER Gnosis attack at a space colony. KOS-MOS helps Shion and the others defeat the Gnosis to defend the space colony and then rescue the 100 series a second time (she managed to get kinapped again, it happens a lot). A bunch more boring and confusing plot stuff happens with a billion more cinematics and hours of grinding before they have to save MOMO AGAIN and beat the big boss. Oh, but it’s not over just yet.

The party then has to save second Miltia this time by destroying a large space station/weapon that is hurtling towards the planet! KOS-MOS risks her life by staying behind to dismantle the station manually, the security system was being a dick, so that it will burn up upon entering atmosphere. She’s rescued at the last minute by the Elsa and her friends only to risk her life AGAIN by climbing on top of it (androids don’t need air) and using her power to shield it from also burning up in the atmosphere as they make an emergency landing on Second Miltia.

With everyone safe and sound and the enemy defeated for now, KOS-MOS is to be delivered to Vector Headquarters as per her original orders and must complete the classified objectives left behind by her late creator, Kevin Winnicott.

Roleplay Sample - Log: Alarms sounded wildly, red lights flashed everywhere and the computer screens lining the walls of the small room displayed bright warning messages while running diagnostic information. The Vector researchers were panicked and trying desperately to find out the cause. “It’s KOS-MOS!” Someone shouted, “She’s starting up in automode!”
“That’s impossible. No one gave the command.”
“Could she be reacting to something on the network?”

The arguments continued and all eyes were on the elongated black machine in the center of the room that looked something like a cross between a tanning bed and a coffin. In reality, it was a maintenance bed and the experimental android KOS-MOS was supposed to be sleeping in it. Suddenly, the room went dark. All the power in that sector was routed to the maintenance bed which was glowing with a faint blue light. The airlock was released and a low hanging mist of chemical fog escaped from the slow rising hatch. KOS-MOS slowly raised a hand placed it on the side of the bed. She sat up, her face impassive and expressing nothing. Her red eyes scanned the room and all the employees in it who were now frozen in terror. She wasn’t supposed to wake up… but she had to. Something was compelling her. The fact that her awakening was illogical would have bothered her if she had been programmed with the capacity to feel bothered by things at all.

When her scan was complete, she stood up and climbed out of her maintenance bed. Her metal heels clicked daintily on the floor. All life forms in the room appeared stable, no one in need of assistance. She tapped into the network and accessed the schematics of the research facility. “Searching.” Her feminine but distinctly robotic voice announced and she paused to complete her search, “Object not found. Search of surrounding area required.”

She gave one last look at the terrified employees before turning swiftly around and walking out of the room. No one dared stop her.

Roleplay Sample - Journal: [Audio]

KOS-MOS, serial number 00-00-00-00-1, development name KP-X online. Preparing network connection…

Confirmed. Accessing Network database. Begin scan.

Scan complete. Life forms detected. Analysis of surrounding area complete. Generating Map. Requesting information. Orders not received. Contacting headquarters…

Connection failed. Outward signal appears to be blocked. Communication with Vector Industries is impossible at this time.

Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here.

I imagine she wouldn’t have access to her huge weapons, but can the Rblade and Rcanon stay? And what would her limitations be regarding the network? The doctors can limit her physical output as needed. (“As I am
currently configured for simulated battle, my output is limited to 22%
of its normal capacity”)
