Weekend in the kitchen

I think I've managed to get every pan in my house dirty today. The skillet, both saucepans, both large stainless steel bowls, the cookie sheets, the cheese grater, and innumerable plates, bowls, and utensils.

A half-batch of cookies works very well, but it makes just as much of a mess as a whole batch. And I've used the last of my precious, precious chocolate chips. I really need to find a place nearby that sells them. I'm pleased with myself, though, because I've figured out a clever system for making sure I don't forget to put in the baking soda or the vanilla or something, since those are things I've done once or twice in the past, with disappointing results. So now, when I'm cooking, I get out all the boxes and bottles of stuff I'm going to need, and then put them back into the cupboard as I use each one. That way, if I get to the end and something is still out on the counter, it means I've forgotten to include it. By then it's probably too late anyway, but at least I know.

So I have a large mess to clean up in the kitchen, but I'm well-fed, and have cookies to take with me to school tomorrow.

I finally went out today and bought a circle template, so I can do my polka-dotted design homework tonight. While I was at it, I got a neat little wooden box to keep my pencils and erasers and stuff in, for my drawing class. And I also bought a really cool metallic bronze gel pen, because I am a sucker like that.

The days are getting shorter awfully fast. It's been rainy in the mornings, and often at night, with glorious blue skies in between. The air is cool and clear and wonderful for walking around in. I'm feeling like I should be taking advantage of it, before the rain really gets going. I'm not sure when that happens; I'll have to pay attention and find out.

eats, seattle love
