Hello Mr. Velocipede,

Now that you're confirmed for your trip to Pittsburgh (you can double check your itinerary by clicking on the box to the right), we'd like to give you a proper send-off! Here are some special offers and fun suggestions, including our favorite movie and song picks to help get you into the Pittsburgh state of mind!

Enjoy, and have a wonderful trip!

. . . . . . . . . . .

Thank you, but I'm trying to avoid the Pittsburgh state of mind for as long as it's humanly possible. I'm not sure what music would be good for inducing such a state, now that I think about it. Are there songs about oppressive humidity? I know there have been some songs about being a Steelers fan, but happily I don't remember them very well.

However, it turns out that there is some music which is perfect. There's an amazing device called a Keplerian Harp, or Cloud Harp, which uses a laser to read atmospheric data, and then translates the data into sound. It was installed in Pittsburgh for some months (while I was there! Dammit, I'm kicking myself for not knowing at the time) in 2004. And you can listen to a recording of the strange noises it made while in Pittsburgh.

So with that on my borrowed iPod, I guess I'm all set for my trip. Oh, except for all the laundry I should probably do before Tuesday. Yeah, better get on that.

elsewhere, weirdness
