So I've been trying to remember this department store in one of the previous local "malls" (truthfully, it wasn't a real mall .. it was more like an indoor strip mall. just, different.) There was the main department store (which would kind of be like a K-Mart now) but it was called Hill's. I couldn't remember for the life of me, and listening to something just triggered it in my brain. Haha.
The most vivid memories I have of the West Side Mall involve Hill's. And the pet store that was right next to it that I can STILL smell. Oh it was terrible, I swear. :[ There was also this odd computer store next to it, too. Some kind of small bookstore down the way. a free carousel, some random stores I was forced to go into while my aunt shopped (haha), a Ms Goody's(?) cookie place, a McCrory's with 2 rides outside (one of which my sister pissed all over one time, ahahaha) and an Insalaco's.
That place was like THE place to go on the weekends .... shit, NOW I remember what prompted the Hill's resurface, hahaha. The small arcade we'd go into before and after we shopped. Had some of the coolest games, atleast to me. And skeeball. And that basketball game. Cheesy yeah, I don't care. It was right across from the most ghetto food court ever. There was like 3 places to eat and it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke due to the bingo room in the back of the court next to the bathrooms.
^_^
I really miss my childhood. I don't go over that way often enough and I feel like I should. Woo, Edwardsville! I think a trip to Nightcap's is in order now, haha. I'll pretend I'm really at Jitterbugs instead. It's just too bad that Price Chopper occupies the space where the arcade and food court used to be. At least Baskin Robbins is still in business, even if it may not be in the same spot it was. (oh, I can't remember now.) Sundays always, always ended with Baskin Robbins.
