It will come as a surprise to no one that my recent and longest attempt to escape the City has failed. Days pass with little accomplished; it leaves one almost discouraged.

Oh, don't give up hope, dear. Things will be alright in the end. What does not kill us only makes us stronger, after all. Well, once we recover from all the injuries, that is.

If by very bright and very responsible you were to mean, instead, barely sharp enough to pierce a sheet of paper and very inclined to shirk all sense of duty and right, then I would agree with you.
