Hello there,
I'm a student in anthropology and I want to develop my knowledge in some subjects. I have a few questions here and I'm looking forward to get a reply from someone who can give me some tips / answers. I hope someone can help me here on the community : )
1) I'm looking for ethnographies / anthropological-historical works about the Scandinavia, Alaska, Siberia, Russia & the Polar Regions. Can someone give me authors, books, references about works done in this places / communities? Especially about Scandinavian Ethnographies. You can give me all the books/authors you know. From the most popular [Franz Boas, William Miller] to the most «underground» works. Old ones and new ones;
2) Ethnographies about Japan?
3) I'm looking for anthropology works about the arts of war. When I read Derek Freeman book about Mead I became fascinated with the descriptions of the arts of war, the scars and all that had to do with war theme. Is there any author [anthropologist] whose work is dedicated to the study of the art of war? I'm looking for anthropology works about wars, weapons and descriptions about tribal fights;
4) Exist some non paid website where I can check all the ethnographies done about a
region/country/culture?
5) Where can I buy anthropology dvd's? Not the National Geographic kind of
videos, but "real" stuff, like 'Becoming a Man in Melanesia' video or Jean Rough DVD's
and so on [Europe stores];
6) Does anyone have/know and essay/paper/website about The Primitive Classifications from Durkheim / Mauss? I have to make an analysis from an epistemological view of their argument. Finding critical errors, etc. Needham introduction to the book is ok, but I need something more so I can make something as analogy with Radcliffe Brown 'Comparative Method' article. I do not want books that focus the theme. I want something done by you or a website with the decomposition of their argument. I don’t have time to check books. If someone can help me I would appreciate;
I guess it’s all.
If someone can give tips I would appreciate.
Regards.
