Personally, I think we hear a lot more of "Happy Holidays" these days because it's easier to market it as such when stores start carrying Christmas junk even before Halloween. Christmas has been consumed by consumerism!
I found it funny too, until the guy, I think Bob Knight? He tried to link what is going on now with Nazism, since they banned the singing of Christmas songs in schools. I could not believe that. I mean, really, who was he calling a Nazi? I was disgusted that he tried to use the Holocaust to further his political viewpoint. But that's just me. Good link though, a friend of mine just wrote a paper on the evolution versus creation debate, and I found it very interesting that someone tied in that this "Merry Christmas" business might be reactionary to the current attack on belief.
