Question.
While looking at houses today, I came across something strange. Well, a number of weird things but this in particular:
In the basement of one house was a railroad spike wrapped 50 or so times with copper wire placed in the basement. Our realtor thought it might be 'magical' and advised me not to touch it (which made me chuckle). I haven't encountered anything quite like this (I'm more of a faunal analysis girl), and was wondering if anyone could shed some insight?
[edit]: So I looked into this electromagnet thing. Wrap a large nail with insulated wire, coiling the wire so it makes a tube around the nail. What I saw was a railroad spike wrapped randomly with very thin uninsulated copper wire.
My husband did the experiment in school at some point. He didn't think it looked like that, either.
