So what do you guys think about the hypothesis that the first Americans were Europeans? As in the Solutrean hypothesis?
I don't know much about this, since I'm not even in college yet (I want to study anthropology, though) but I would definitely like to learn more.
I remember reading somewhere that they found out that Native Americans of the West Coast of America shared genetic markers with people in Siberia. Is this true? If so, doesn't that prove that Native American ancestors came from Siberia?
But that's the West Coast. Obviously the East Coast is closer to Europe. I suppose it's possible that Europeans could have migrated north over Greenland and then back down into North America, but was that all frozen over at the time? Was there any land to support plants and animals that humans could have depended on during their migration? Or was it just ice?
As you can see, I have a lot of questions. If you guys have links to websites that talk about this hypothesis, or the genetic studies of Native Americans, that would be great. I'd also like to hear all your opinions on it.
