Hi, everyone. I'm a freshman from Sri Lanka planning to transfer to either a U.S or Canadian University and double major in Anthropology and Communications with a minor in either Economics or Political Science. I was born to be an anthropologist, and I can't imagine doing anything else with my life. I have a few problems to which I'd love to have your advice.
1. I'm torn between Cultural and Linguistic Anthropology. What are the career paths that are open to me in each of these disciplines and how do I decide which ones to pursue?
2. I don't know whether it would be better to transfer to a US university or a Canadian one, although I do plan to settle down in Canada. Do you know which universities have the best reputed anthropology and communications departments?
3. What kinds of career paths would be open to a a person with this double major? I don't have anything against academia, but I'd much rather be doing social work and working towards something rather than be surrounded by research all the time. Also, I have a great love of journalism.
4. I love both Econ and Political Science and I don't know which one to choose! Any opinions on the matter?
I hope I don't come across as a totally flaky person. I do have some ideas as to what I should do, but I'd like to hear your views first. I'm not very interested in a large salary myself, but my folks will be spending a heap on me as an international student, so I have to take the lucrativity of my career into consideration as well.
Loads of thanks in advance to those kind enough to respond.
