US lawmakers have called on Japan's government to formally apologise for its role in forcing thousands of women to work as sex slaves in World War II.

...

Japan says it has shown sufficient remorse over the issue, but survivors and relatives say it should go further.

This is an example of offending the Wa.

is there a list somewhere of what the U.S. has apologized for?
to First Nations?
African-American Descendants of Slaves?
any apologies for the torture, rape, enslavement and extreme theft?

that question aside, if it took the U.S. to urge them to do it, then good for the involvement.
And sad,
yes, very sad what heinous crimes humans of every nation are capable of.

Yes the Japanese need to apologize, just like we as a country have a shitload to apologize for as well.

Why should the average Japanese person have to apologize for something their government did, though? Why should the average American have to apologize for historical events, for that matter?

In the U.S., because the United States benefits from that suffering today. We are reaping the benefits of slavery. It's important to acknowledge that and apologize for taking advantage of it. It's important to our national collective psyche to be aware of and sensitive to the leftover conditioning and post trauma experience.

You can disagree, this is all I have to say on the subject today.
