Bruce Trigger, 1937-2006

The archaeologist Bruce Trigger passed away yesterday.  He taught at McGill University in Montreal and was pretty famous in certain circles.  He wrote quite a few books that archaeologists and 4 field anthros will have read, particularly A history of archaeological thought (1989).  See his Wikipedia page for a list of his publications and the Read more... )

Oh, that's really sad. We're using his book in our theory class.

Ours too. I might have cursed him a bit this semester, but it is only because he was so incredibly thourough.

Our theory class did the same.

I also in a moment of huge dorkiness stood outside his door at McGill once during the summer when I went to check out the campus a couple years. Having done all my postsecondary education in Canada his is a rather unavoidable name in Canadian archaeology especially if you are interested in Pre-Contact periods.

Holy crap! Yeah, we talked alot about his stuff in my classes too. As a Canadian and archaeologist, I'm sad to hear this. I've used his stuff for papers and stuff too.... :(
