Beastie Boys V. Penny Arcade

CONTENT NOTE FOR 80's ERA HIP HOP HEROES AND GAMING CONVENTIONS

So I just read this: http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/09/penny-arcade-expo-dickwolves/

And it just reminded me... I have thought for a long time that The Beastie Boys' interview on Fresh Air several years ago is a model of How To Be A Grown Up.

When asked about improvising lyrics, and which ones they choose, one replied to Terry Gross "well... usually the more sexist stuff." He goes on to explain they really kind of needed to grow up and cut that s*it out. So they did. I liked the Beastie Boys before that interview, even though as a kid in the 80's I was kind of o_O about some of the material. But I am a Beastie Boys loyalist forever, now.

The PAX guys, of Dickwolves infamy, depressingly have huge industry influence, as Love's comment in the article shows. This is one reason I am so bummed by their ongoing a**-clowning attitude about that whole mess. I don't even mean the original comment. It's their utter refusal to have a real talk with their fans about the escalating online abuse that got pitched at critics of the whole jam that bummed me out. That, and the fact that the one dude, Gabe, seems committed to flogging this very, very dead horse over and over. It seems to not have sunk in that you can't make a space welcoming, if you are the only person who gets to define what welcoming is. And he can't let go of the idea that maybe, just maybe, it was time to let this go.

I think they could take a leaf from the Beastie Boys Handbook Of Being A Grown Ass Adult, and it would do a world of good and wonder.

The first minutes of this replay have the minute I am thinking of:
