Yeah I suck, I should have posted this sooner....
So, we are hosting 2 girls from Ukraine as part of the Children of Chernobyl program. The girls arrive next Thursday, June 17th.
Yikes!
(please note: this is not Dasha since Belarus and the US are STILL not talking to each other. I miss Dasha so much it hurts sometimes...okay, it hurts like a hole in my heart, but that is because I tend to give my heart to any child in my life... Dasha is so wonderful and I miss her and I hope she is okay)
On a much more positive note.
The girls are 9 years old, they are both from families that have few resources. This is their first trip to the US (or anywhere...)
They will not know English when they arrive!
If you want to help out in a low stress way, there are some donations we are looking for.... (non-returned items)
Kids clothing - summer/light weight for girls/unisex. If they kids are like the kids from Belarus, they will be small for their age (although slightly big clothing is fine).
Kids toys/games/barbies/arts and crafts kids/coloring books/markers/crayons (obviously I have been hording these sorts of things as I get them, but more are welcome). Only donate those if you don't need them back.
Kids winter coats/sweaters for them to take back to Ukraine at the end of the trip.
For both the kids & chaperons - new toothbrushes, small toothpaste samples, toiletries (small or large); photo albums; disposable cameras.
I also need donation of 2 small clean lunch bags (the type made of fabric/plastic - not hard lunch boxes) & 2 refillable water bottles that do not leak (for some reason all the ones I have leak like a sieve)
No one needs to donate anything of course, but if you have any toiletry samples stolen taken from hotels and are looking for someone where to donate them, we will happily give them to the girls and the adults who are chaperoning.
Thanks! It should be fun month!!!! (fingers crossed)
