Stuff has been happening...
I will be singing as a 1st Alto, Choir 1, in the performance of Mahler's 8th Symphony in February during the Festival of the Arts. Very chuffed and excited. Lots of work ahead, muchos time commitments, but something I think will definitely be well worth it.
Today the dogs went to the beach for the first time since last summer, and on their new harnesses. Much happiness and excitement - had to walk them to the jetty from Henley Beach Rd before they had calmed enough to be let off the lead. Nutmeg did her usual all-seagulls-must-be-chased thing, and Digby thoroughly enjoyed rolling in loose sand; obviously there is still the last remnants of the winter coat itching to get out. Both pups now fast asleep in the hall, after a long drink as soon as we got back. Happy dogs. :D
There is something delightful about coming home from a walk to a hot dinner coming out of the oven and smelling delightful. And nutritious and tasty and healthy and not junk food. I like this. I also like being able to have already-made cucumber salad with it. A crock-pot may have to go on my wish list; maybe for birthday as I think it's more a winter thing.
Christmas is coming up and I am feeling somewhat blah about it. I don't know if Brian is planning to do anything on the 25th, but to be honest, I just don't see the point. I'll do my traditional thing of giving people New Year's presents (I see no point in spending more money to give people something on a day I don't celebrate when I can wait a week and enjoy the sales.) There are a few people I am making gifts for, mostly of the knitted or CD variety, so I need to find the money for more printer ink, which leads me to...
Finances. Suck. Debts, which I've always managed to avoid in my life, now around the $5,000 mark and needing to be paid. Solution...
Work. Need it. Preferably a nice part time job where I can choose which hours I am in so I can keep it once I go back to Uni. But a decent-paying short term contract will do. Unfortunately I am a Temp Agent's wet dream, and I'm not wild about temp work. But needs must when the devil rides (an odd little saying I've always thought.)
J-Bear and I had a talk about housework the other night. She's feeling pretty down about it, and I have to admit I haven't been doing what I should, which makes it harder for her. Vicious cycle - regular stuff doesn't get maintained so time that should be spent dealing with the boxes and the clutter is spent tidying up so nothing progresses... We've been like the two bullocks that don't pull together; one does, then the other, and both wind up exhausted and getting nowhere. I looked at our lifestyle; I have a lot of evening commitments and J-Bear works afternoon-to-evening shifts. The solution wasn't that hard; we both need to make the effort to get up in the morning and stay off the internet/books/TV/insert time-eating pastime here until we've had breakfast and done an hour of chores. Succeeded at being awake and up before 9 every day since the conversation, and had multiple chores done each day. Just need to keep the momentum going.
Found tinned grown-up cat food the Captain likes, which is great for my budget. He gets 2 meals of gooshy food a day, plus kitten kibble, and from now until he's a year old one of those meals will be tinned instead of the sachets of kitten food. One tin is about 5 meals for him at the moment; that's around $4 in tinned food to the $9 for 12 sachets of kitten food. Much better. He still doesn't like fish though - it has to be meaty. And obviously his preferred food is roast chicken (or whatever I'm having for lunch that looks tasty.)
I have a carport again! And shed space! Fidgitboy came and took a load of stuff away and it's goooooooooooone forever! Still a lot more to go - another load of Other People's Stuff and at least one load of stuff for the tip. It's slow, but it progresses, which is more than has happened in the last 3 years. Happy me.
Health hasn't been great. I had a sinus infection a bit over a month ago, went to the doctor, got antibiotics and it cleared up. Wednesday had a fever and felt blah. Spent Thursday and Friday mostly asleep with fever and blocked sinus, blowing greeny-yellow snot. Hello sinus infection! Missed the concert on Saturday because I couldn't breathe and could barely hear due to blocked and under-pressure ear tubes. Have spent today gently blowing gunk out of my nose and trying to get my ears to pressurise. If not fixed tomorrow, it's the doctor for more antibiotics on Tuesday. I really don't need this.
So, on the balance of things, it's a mix of up and down, and it's tough at the moment, but I'm looking forward to the future. All will be well.
