Evil has a small voice. It whispers in the ear of a weak, unhappy, frustrated person. They hear what it whispers, and give Evil their voice to use to speak to others who feel as weak, as unhappy, as frustrated as they do. And so Evil is magnified by loud voices; some of those voices call for stronger measures to protect against the fears Evil whispered, and others give their hands to do violence and death. Because Evil, so small and powerless by itself, hopes its whisper will be magnified by a crowd screaming at each other in a whirlwind of death.
And then someone says "I can offer you shelter." "I can give you aid." "My door is open." "I will be your friend, not your enemy."
And Evil is silenced, its voice is lost, because it needs us to give it power.
