I will take the next five drabble requests. If you would like a drabble from me, please comment on this post with characters or a pairing and a prompt.

It was hard for Tim to look them in the eye, the day he brought them home. They were supposed to be his teammates, his friends. Not pets. Never pets.
None of them really spoke that first day. Tim doesn't know what silenced the others, but for him, it was the damned collars. Something bitter clogged his throat whenever he saw that strip of steel against Kon's strong throat, that dark band marring Bart's golden skin. It was never supposed to be like this.
They all know how it happened, of course. They saw the propaganda on the official news channels. Tim remembers the look in Kon's eyes the day President Luthor signed the bill. Lucy's Law, they'd called it, for a little girl Metello had killed last time he got out. Well, that's what the promoters called it. Babs had used several less polite names.
Really, the worst of it was a definition, not a law at all. Human: a biped of earthly decent. It continued for pages, listing every acceptable variation and explaining the range of abilities permissable for a human.
Kon hadn't fit. Neither had Bart. They were both well above tolerance in strength and durability. The test couldn't even measure Bart's speed. Tim couldn't tell if he'd been scared or proud. Mostly scared.
Dangerous animals, they were called. Some people wanted to put them down. Hunt them to extinction, like they did almost did with grizzly bears. Really, this solution is kinder. Better slavery than death, right?
Sometimes, when Bart's shoulders slump with defeated bewilderment, when Kon rages against the world, sometimes Tim isn't so sure.
Yeah, it really isn't fair to them. Of course, every other meta and alien is in the same situation. Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor had quite a bidding war over Superman!
Maybe. I'm not promising to write more in this world, but I'm not ruling it out either. I'm not sure whom I would focus on, though.
Thanks. I suppose I could have written some perfectly pleasant story about how Tim adores his goldfish, but this seemed more interesting.
It would be a good place to explore institutionalized persecution and the havoc it wreaks on interpersonal relationships. But I'm not sure which characters I would focus on. Maybe Tim's life with Kon and Bart. Maybe Dick's life with either Kory or Slade. Maybe someone else entirely.
Also, I'm not sure which direction this world is moving. I don't know whether the caste system is becoming more entrenched or rebellion is brewing on the edges of America. Probably both.
It's amazing what you can find on the internet, there are so many English-Elvish translators out there. And I think the term geekery is my personal favourite.
Tada! I'm reasonably happy with it, being the first DC fic I've ever written.

okay now you have to write more about this world :)

I don't like this world much, though. It's less tolerant, even, than our own.

I also clamor for more in this world. Gods, how utterly heartbreaking!
*applauds*

I'm glad you liked it!

If our begging does get you to come back to it, it might make a nice backdrop for some character studies dealing with institutionalized persecution.

Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it. Something like that would put a lot of strain on the entire hero community.

It's such an interesting concept, and it would change the relationships between the metas and non-metas so dramatically.
Reply
It really would. There would be a lot of fear and mistrust and desperation, but there might also be more closeness.
The power balance would shift toward the non-metas, which would strain almost all of the working relationships.

Would you mind if I played around with this universe a bit? I have a couple of little ideas in my head but it was your idea so I just wanted to check.

Go right ahead. You're welcome to it, and I'd love to see what you come up with.
