we started booking shows again. a post-rock band from new york and seattle played on monday. the turnout wasn't so great. this city has no hope. thanks to the three other bands that played. it was a fun show, and i got to speak with some other people who also know that merzbow is a joke.
the new bubba sparxxx album is the biggest disappointment of this year. the first four tracks are incredible. it's dirty south rap over (suitably) country blues and bluegrass samples and beats. even the lyrics are infused with delta imagery: "i've been traveling bustin' nines, with my fishing pole and my bottle of 'shine."
then abruptly, after those four tracks, the album morphs into unlistenable, indescribable garbage. what a shame.
i'm about to go out to see the freddy vs jason horror movie. i made fun of this one a lot during the trailer, plus i've had a bad fever and haven't left the apartment in almost 72 hours. the reason i'm still going out is that i need to get josh at work at 2.30 anyway, and three movies i've seen recently with low expectation turned out to be cinematic masterpieces.
a) 28 days later. looked like a typical horror movie. boy was i mistaken. _heart of darkness_ for the 21st century. saw it twice.
b) pirates of the caribbean. instant classic. not a single thing was wrong with this film. _paradise lost_ symbolism and rasputin references throughout. saw it twice.
c) t3. part three of the terminator series; and i've never been able to see a terminator movie in its entirety. THIS MOVIE CHANGED MY LIFE. saw it twice.
