Jumbled

A few things I have done recently:

-Had a haircut, earlier today. The pluses are numerous: I now look vaguely presentable, have closed down an avenue of attack for my mother and have made my sister's dream literally come true (because she apparently had a dream whilst she was away that I'd had my hair cut and only realised that it wasn't true when she came home and saw my head in all of its tangled glory). The minuses are that it no longer looks 'endearing' in quite the same way (sorry pleezpleezme) and I don't look quite as poet-like now that my head has been shorn a little. Also, I no longer have the right to describe my appearance as 'something between a youthful Albert Einstein growing a beard and a dandelion-clock', which is a tragedy in itself.

-Borrowed Series One and 2 of Doctor Who from purplefringe, care of safebox. Since getting hold of them on Monday I've managed to polish off Series 1 and have watched the Christmas Special. I must admit that I wasn't particularly impressed with the first half of Series one; it was only when it got to Dalek that it began to actually work for me properly, and Dalek really was as fantastic as I'd remembered. (To be fair, actually, the one thing that I noticed right from the get-go was just how good Billie Piper really is: Rose is one of the most convincing characters I've seen in a long time, and Billie Piper plays her fantastically. She did pretty well in The Ruby in the Smoke despite being horribly miscast, but I'd not appreciated how excellent she really is.) The Empty Child and it's sequel were excellent (the second part moreso, I think) and everything from then on just built on that success. Shipping for the series, by the way, is Jack/Nine, unrequited Rose/Nine and very awkward Jack/Rose/Nine.

Ten, by the way, is my new god. Just saying.

-Managed to wake safebox up at 6.30 in the morning. This is rendered all the more remarkable due to the fact that I managed it from the other side of St Albans with no active agency on my part whatsoever other than a horrible guilty feeling and a resolve to never leave my phone in inhabited places when there is an alarm set at such an ungodly hour ever, ever again. And she'd made me tea, too...

-Made flippers. Whee.

-Broke up with Helen. Um. Yeah. May or may not get talked about at another time, 'kay?

-Saw Ocean's 13, which was actually surprisingly good, if somewhat lacking in female characters other than the right hand man and the cute concierge girl. But still good. Afterwards I had a big argument with meine_kleine over whether Northern Lights is or isn't justified in being retitled The Golden Compass for the film, which was fairly pointless and got far too intense. My problem is that I can't take debates like this very seriously and therefore don't notice the signs when other people do, and just enjoy the rhetoric and the facetious logic. If anybody's read Arcadia then I'm like Bernard in that respect. Le sigh.

-Went and bought Harry Potter at Midnight with meine_kleine and charcoal_cloud (who really is cooler every time I meet her) and stripyglove and bumped into charr and zoecb and safebox and some other awesome people (one of whom, I think, was amy_chang_12) and swooshed around a lot in my cloak. (I dressed up in a suit -- black -- with a black shirt and my lovely dark purple tie and then I swooshed around in my big black cloak and it was fun.) We filled out a snarky version of the questionnaire and got our books and waited for everyone outside with surprising levels of restraint (and were talked to by a drunk dude) and then I bimbled home (and greatly enjoyed the surprised looks on the faces of the passing motorists when they registered my silhouette) and then read it until about five am and then had sod all to do for two hours and then I did my paper round and then I went to bed and didn't actually get up for more tan twelve hours.

-What else? I've written some poems and done lots of work for people and mowed the lawn and met up with nosesaretasty (who is awesome even if she does fail at stopping me from buying Iain M Banks books) and stuff. Also, my mother actually apologised to me for once. I was shocked.
