Writing like Terry Pratchett is always surprisingly hard when I try to do it intentionally; I'm better at accidentally channelling Neil Gaiman. :P (On that note, can you remember which Discworlds other than Night Watch and Going Postal and The Truth say a lot about the nature of Ankh-Morpork as a modern city?)
What do you mean by "modern" city? "Guards Guards" has a lot about the nature of Anhk-Morpork, while Jogno has a lot about xenophobia, inter-country war, the Patrician as a genius, etc.
Guards Guards is probably better for my purposes, then -- I need stuff that talks about how the city works as a -- well, I'm writing an eljay post about it (because my friends list is probably a very sensible place to ask around for this kind of thing, all things considered) and it will probably make more sense there. I hope.
Vetinari as Big Ken is probably a bit of a stretch, sadly, especially given the time frame. :(:P
But why do I not recognise the Pratchett? Has a new book come out?
