That number that you're not supposed to say when in the Temple of Bel-Shamharoth

-Before I mention anything else, let me say a massive congratulations to purplefringe, who is very clever and wonderful indeed, and is deserving of much kudos. (And also my cousin Benj). You rock. And you know why. :D

-I have remembered what I was going to mention in the last post: this Wednesday was not actually Wednesday but Monday, until four o'clock when it changed back into Monday again. This switch went off remarkably smoothely, all things considered. My headmaster's temporal power is obviously absolute. (Apparently too many Mondays have gone absent without leave - or if given leave, only on a very grudging basis - and as Wednesdays are apparently unimportant, this one was sacrificed to attempt to redress the Balance. Which sounds like it should be something to do with a very bizarre cult.)

-Vaguely as a homage to this lost Monday, I have begun reading G.K.Chesterton's The Man Who Was Thursday. 'We have elected many and splendid Thursdays.' Heh heh heh.

-As you may have guessed from this, I have finished another book. However, this is not the whole truth, because I have finished two. Book three was Whit, by Iain Banks, which was excelent, and which shall be put on the RS fiction reading list, because it is all about religion and theology and things, and a thoroughly good book. (I was slightly suprised with what the ending didn't address, but even so, 'twas a good read.) Book four was Damnation Alley by Roger Zelazny, which was fun, silly, and pretty vaccuous, really. Given how fantastic Lord of Light was, it was pretty disappointing, but it was still a fun read.

-I have eaten the best apple I have eaten this year, and it was a Granny Smith, but less chalky and tart than they usually are. More need to be bought. Now. For me.

-Having a girlfriend who lives very close to where you are is very good. :)

-Yesterday, I came into £43. This was rather unexpected.

Twenty-three pounds of it arrived as my pay-check for my sunday job (I worked two weeks in December). This was slightly more than usual, so I phoned my boss to check if it was an administrative error; apparently, though, I have been given a ten percent pay rise, which is really rather nice, and they back-dated it from the last week in November. In effect, this will give me the princely sum of one pound sterling extra every week that I work, but even so, it's nice.

The other twenty quid was gained in an even more unexpected fashion. As I was walking back home, I discovered a phone in the bushes on Holywell, which was ringing; I picked it up and explained that it was lying near at the side of the road, and the person on the other end, whose girlfriend' phone it was said he'd turn round and come and pick it up, so I walked back down to near Sainsburies so he could actually stop, and then gave it to him. He insisted on giving me some money for being 'so honest', which made me feel very guilty. I shall probably fritter it away in charity shops, or something.

-My uncle and his family are coming for supper tonight, which is very nice because we haven't seen them for ages. I rather like my dad's brother, but his family are slightly difficult because we have very little in common, and because my cousins are, really rather dull to the extent that they can be quite difficult to hld a conversation with for a decent length of time. Hopefully we shall manage this time, though. :D
