1. bought myself a stone! I fell in love with it and I am going to make myself a fabulous cocktail ring out of it. You will fall in love with this stone too. Doesn't it look like the inside of a monsters mouth with big sharp teeth? Maybe I'm crazy.

that cut is called a concave millennium cut. it has become quite popular, especially in thailand and india where most stones traded in the US are cut. i hope you didn't spend more than $2/ct though. smoky is uber cheap.

possibly, but it's made by human hands in america. the price of living is a bit steep compared to asia. sometimes it's just nice to support someone who has a good thing going.

where do you get your stones?

well, the thing is, the stone is cut by a machine, no matter which country it is cut in. the machine is operated by human hands, yes, but there is a computer program involved in the process and everything. it isn't exactly like they take a chisel to it anymore.

most of the stones i have purchased come out of india for bulk, or thailand if they are more specialized or deeper in saturation, or cleaner. thai stones are more expensive because labor is more expensive, but the quality is better. i work with german stones too, there is one town in particular in germany called idar-obersteinthat specializes in really fancy cuts, and the italians purchase nearly all their stones from there. extremely expensive though. and of course most diamonds are cut in israel or antwerp or india and i work a lot with those.

i have different vendors for different stones, for different quantities and different types as well as cuts and grades. my full professional portfolio is not online but in hard format, but you can view some of my work on flickr. a lot of it is carried in department stores and various other major retailers, but typically not small shops.
