You know, Aerith dying was sad and all, but I don't feel like crying every time I hear that music or anything. The scene doesn't bother me, either. It never really did. You could blame that on spoilers, since I did see it coming, but every trailer set Metal Gear Solid 4 up as a tragic game, so I knew to expect something sad from it, even if the trailers were misleading. Listening to the MGS4 soundtrack really evokes the same feelings I had when playing the game. I can't really think of a game or soundtrack that has been able to do that before for me. Hideo Kojima really knows his shit when it comes to video game directing, and it's not exactly a mature medium, so it's really impressive. After MGS1, really, I haven't found his stuff all that corny, like most video games tend to be, even today.
A lot of games today try the whole mutliple path thing and way too many are using that whole tough moral choice gimmick. Bioshock was a great game, but they pretty much tell you what to expect depending on what path to take, and killing the little sisters isn't exactly as horrible as it could be. Far Cry 2 did it right by springing a choice on you that was hard even if it wasn't a moral decision for you, because you really don't know what to expect, and when nothing works according to plan either way, it really makes you feel like an asshole. MGS4 didn't do anything like this, but it still made you feel for the protagonist. It may have been easier, being a controlled experience, I guess, but most games that make you feel for the main character kinda cheat by making him a mute and never showing his face. They actually made Snake a character and at the same time make you feel for him, which is the right way to do it, really. Anyway, my point is, MGS4 is awesome. It may have extremely long cutscenes, but they never bore you, aside from maybe the random explaination scenes in the middle of some cutscenes that are pretty hard to follow and boring if you don't care. They didn't take the easy route in fucking with gamers by killing off characters unless they really needed to die (I'm thinking the ending here and what happened in Shadow Moses). They did, however, make characters suffer (the entire game, plus the hallway/crawling thing near the end), which really made the end of the conflict a lot more relieving for the player.
Anyway, my point, again, is, "Love Theme" makes me all emotional still and "Father and Son" is pretty epic. :P
