You dance the tango? That's amazing! ♥ You don't happen to have pictures of you dancing??

I do indeed. I've danced for about ten years now. Germany is probably the best place in Europe to dance Argentine tango btw. I've danced in Berlin a couple of times and it's amazing.

You don't happen to have pictures of you dancing??
Not many actually, I try to keep out of range of cameras! I've put a couple up in a temp directory in my scrap book. Hopefully I've set the permissions so only you can see them :}

It is? I didn't know that. What makes it so amazing, do we stage big events?

I can see the folder, but it's empty. :(

There's a huge tango scene in Berlin with loads of really good dancers, musicians, djs and teachers. We bring a tango quintet over from Berlin every year to play at our ball :)

Try folder again now, there should be three pics there.

Am seeing in my head, angsty tango in Rl Ferrol, involving H and A, and....Mr Hunter?!

I'm telling you, tango lyrics are grim!! I'll try and look out some translations sometime.

Am seeing in my head, angsty tango in Rl Ferrol, involving H and A, and....Mr Hunter?!
Lol! Don't be silly, Mr Hunter would be complaining that they want proper English dancing, none of that filthy foreign muck! Meanwhile H&A would be wrapping their legs around each other in the corner.... I should probably stop there.... ;)

You dance! That's so cool! :DD I wish I could do dancing of that sort (not tango specifically - I'd really love to learn how to do rock'n'roll properly though. It always looks like so much fun). And now I'm curious about seeing these photos of you too! XD

Also, I may have to find me some tango songs if they have angsty sea-related lyrics. O.o To add to my maritime playlist you understand. ^^

Oooh look at your icon! *want* Tango is heaps of fun but it's one of these dances that you could spend your life learning. It's not easy!

And now I'm curious about seeing these photos
I'll show you my pics if you show me your maritime playlist! ;) I've added you to the tango_temp gallery.

Feel free to nab! =) And I can readily imagine tango not being easy O.o It looks very difficult - to be fair I think this is true of most formal dancing styles: if you want to do it well you can spend your lifetime learning.

Aww, I love your outfit! You look very pretty ^^ And very focused. Is that your hubby?

Re: Maritime playlist - it's a very long playlist! XD It has a lot of British and French sea shanties as well as two concept albums by an American folk band called Right Away Great Captain (I kid you not) ^^ I'd be more than happy to send you the songs but I might need your e-mail address.

Oooh thanks I shall definitely be nabbing your icon.

if you want to do it well you can spend your lifetime learning.
Argentine tango is a completely improvised dance so you need to learn to lead and follow, rather than learning set steps, that's what makes is such a challenge.

And very focused.
Hahaha! Yes, you really have to concentrate as a follower because there's no way of knowing that your leader will do next! And yes that's my partner, though we're not married :)

Your playlist sounds amazing! I'll pm you my mail address.

Looked in Worldcat for your article and journal - and it tells me the two nearest places it is are the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow :)

Ah now that's interesting. I looked in the Strathclyde Uni catalogue and it claims that they only carry the journal from 1989 - 2003. If Worldcat suggest otherwise then I shall complain to the Vice President of OCLC who I know from way back!!

I haven't checked the Glasgow catalogue for this journal; but I did search for Exmouth in Glasgow and turned up some interesting bits and pieces including copies of Osler, Salame and:

"A geographical description of Algiers and Tunis, with a full account of the attack on Algiers, by Lord Exmouth, on the 26th August 1816."

:)

Sorry - stupidly didn;t check dates in Strathclyde Uni entry -but obviously you will do. I see that its at the NMM though so could get it there for you in Sept and/or see its in the CUL so I can order it up there if you had no other luck otherwise. SAdly not in Bodley - suspect thess days they share out these journals to be able to afford them.

:)

You bet its :) how contemporary is it and do we know by whom - or compiled from Edward's adn Vice Admiral Milnes own accounts ?

I have salame downloaded now - but can't print it out as it is 400 pages and the search doesn't work on a PDF when you download it from googlebooks - ggrrr

That's a pretty awesome crossover of interests. When I think of you I have in my mind this image of a darkhaired woman standing in the middle of a pit next to a half exposed skeleton surrounded by bits and pieces of pottery. *g*

As _likimeya says, it's really amazing that you dance the tango!!!! Dancing is such a highly active and coordinated sport; anyone who does it well has my uttermost respect. (Ballet dancers in particular hehe)

Hahaha! That was certainly me ten years ago! Although you would also have to imagine it raining and me very muddy!

I've always loved all kind of dancing, particularly contemporary. I've done bits and pieces of performance over the years but tango is the only dancing I really do now. There's nothing like it :)
