Earlier this week
esmerelda_t and I had a rare cultural outing when we went to see Patti Smith performing Horses at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.
esmerelda_t is a regular culture vulture of course, but I am a terrible philistine these days :}
Unsurprisingly, it was a fabulous performance. It's almost 20 years since I last saw Patti Smith live and she may be pushing seventy now but she has lost none of her power. It's hard to pick a favourite from the performance; 'Horses' and 'Beneath the Southern Cross' were stunning and she finished with a raucous cover of 'My Generation' that ended in a glorious wall of feedback. If I did have to pick one song though, I think it would have to be 'Birdland'. I can't find any decent recordings of recent live performances, but here's one from the Royal Festival Hall in 2005.
