I can _highly_recommend it for your granddaughter! It's great fun to read out loud, although daughter did cover her ears at one point ;) I also comes with a handy glossary of nautical terminology at the beginning, so it's quite grown up enough for an 8 year old.
Now you need to write a Loud Emily/Hornblower crossover!
On a related note, I do hate seeing girls sitting in simpering silence while some boy holds court, I was once on th bus where the very thing was occuring and wanted to turn round and say, "One of you say something! It can't be hard to say something more interesting than him!"
Now you need to write a Loud Emily/Hornblower crossover! I shall add it to my list of crackfic!
I do hate seeing girls sitting in simpering silence while some boy holds court God yes! I so agree. Although there is a lot of be said for silent disdain ;)
That is beyond cute! She's even wearing duck trousers under her dress! :D Today she would be wearing leggings and a mini skirt, I suppose. *rolls eyes*
I suppose it hasn't been translated into Swedish though :( I have no idea! It seems to be a reasonably well known book though so you never know it might have been!
I'm completely perplexed when it comes to what I'm to write! You could wait till he's a bit older and then get him to help you write it! It's amazing the stories that you can conjure out of thin air with a child if you keep asking "and then what happened?" :D
It's my responsibility now that I am an honorary aunt! Honorary aunt duties must be taken very seriously indeed. *nods*
Wouldn't it be just a little bit cool to write a story with the text in say five different languages? What a wonderful idea! And what an impressively multi-lingual family!
He gets Icelandic, Swedish and English every day at home, so why not a couple more? Why not indeed?! You should add Gaelic to that list given the historical links between Northern Scotland and Iceland :)
I must find that book... Seems to be easy enough to get a hold of. I looked it up on amazon to get a link for the cover pic and there were loads of second hand copies available. It's worth getting for the nautical glossary alone, it's very cute.
