Tall Ships Race, Greenock

Jul 11, 2011 11:57

Yesterday we went down to Greenock to see the tall ships race which has come to the Clyde for the first time since 1999. Against all the odds the weather was glorious, the boats were just stunning and the crews were not bad either ;)

The main attraction seemed to be the Colombian ship Gloria which was crewed by the most outrageously flash bunch of sailor boys. The officers uniforms were black with gold braid and the crew were dressed head to toe in blinding white. Aviator shades appeared to be de rigeur. Needless to say there was a queue a mile long to visit the Gloria and we were reliably informed by a local lassie that the Colombians took Greenock by storm on Friday night.

We're planning to go back down to Greenock tomorrow to see the parade of sail as the ships leave the Clyde so hopefully I'll get some more pics then.
