Today was a writing day and therefore a good one.
I share with you writer's notes to self from the story I worked on all day today.

[[ needs connector ]]
[[ transition ]]
[[ Giles vomits into the kitchen sink.]]
[[ Keep them touching. Echo physical actions by Giles in earlier story. ]]
[[ Giles has visible emotional reaction of some kind ]]
[[ This is all wrong, both tone and content. Conversation needs to stay personal and not wander into expository nonsense. Who the fuck cares? Not me. ]]
Sooper genius in action! Especially in that "visible emotional reaction" comment, oh yeah. I usually write notes like this when I'm skipping over something that needs to be edited or written but I'm not ready to work on that bit just yet. I rarely write a story start to finish. I will try to outline then write whatever is most on my mind at any time. The seed of a story for me will often be something in the middle, or a final image. Though in this one, it was the last line of the first graf that got me going. (I wonder if that means I should cut it. Hmm.)
This story is not:
- the late ficathon story
- the ficathon story due this week
- either of the other stories mentioned in yesterday's post
I hate my fickle brain. Anyway. Here's a hint. Story files that are newer than the birthday ficspam file:

"A Jagged Gorgeous Winter" -- jagged, dissonant, and fucking annoying
"Rob the Prez-O-Dent" -- sounded promising for about 10 seconds
anything by Bang Camaro -- christ on a crutch, lame
that Ratt-t-t-t-t-t song that keeps turning up in mystery setlists -- inoffensive but moronic 80s hair metal
"Shackler's Revenge" -- Guns-n-Roses? really? It's utter shit and that is so not Slash playing so how can it possibly be GNR?
On the other hand, it turns out that I will play Journey and the Grateful Dead until I fall over with exhaustion. My hipster cred is in shreds. But I really wish I could five-star a song and then mark it as "never force me to play this again". Like thumbs down on Pandora.
Pro tip from my boss: The way to move up to hard on guitar is to play hard on bass first. This is working out for me.
