Have you ever read the two great pastiche series in the Holmes Universe? I'm not a big Laurie King fan, but the first book is very good (Beekeeper's Apprentice). Better still is Carole Nelson Douglas' Irene Adler series. I highly recommend that whole series, to beat the post Nano blues....
I have every intention of writing a sequel to that Holmes story. It'll be a time travel paradox story, so it will need tight plotting. I have a vague idea that I will take a year to live in the UK (my company has an office there, so it's kinda possible) and write it while slouching around London spending all my savings on the cost of living.
I have read the Laurie King books, and find them acceptable but not madly brilliant. I like the Nicholas Meyer pastiches a bunch-- The West End Horror is fun. I have a few Holmes short story pastiche collections as well. I have not read Douglas; will add it to the list.
