Once somebody drops a character, a series of events unfold:
➟ The sickness suddenly increases in severity, to the point where it can be easily detected by a passing scientist or a sentry trained to pick up signs of such.
➟ They get taken to this area (
)of the lab and are 'frozen' for the time being. People don't see this happening-or else there'd be a ruckus, wouldn't there?
➟ NOTE: If your character has been active in general, then they'll qualify for stasis. And if not, well, it'll be handwaved.
|| SPECIFICS
When frozen, they are injected with heparin to stop blood clotting coupled with a cryoprotectant, before being placed in a stasis chamber. In the stasis chamber, the scientists can run scans and study you while time remains stopped for your sickness. Sometimes things don't go as planned, but that's pretty rare.
During this time, players can choose whether to have very faint memories of being tested and experimented on. Those painkillers really do a number on their minds! The virus also develops immunity to whatever treatment is done; hence given the test subjects, they haven't really found out a way to cure people just yet. They've only been able to cut back on symptoms and severity, just enough to return them to 'normal' temporarily. Even then, the sickness returns.
When they come out of stasis; selective memory due to hibernation sickness. What this means is that players can choose whether to keep old CR, chase up previous history (it's wise to post a permissions post asking for such in the OOC comm) or to start anew. The tests don't leave any resounding marks-so their state is essentially as good as new. The scientists can also repair any injuries prior to being put in stasis.
