Natural gas that is. Not flatulence, but a gas leak. My family smelled it around 8pm. It was pretty strong and of course, we worried that the stove had a leak. That wasn't it. After running around trying to find out what it was and finding nothing (but a huge headache), my parents called NIPSCO (energy co.). They still haven't come, but I guess it's not important anymore.
No, luckily the house didn't blow up. Around 10:15pm a neighbor, who had seen my mom & another neighbor sitting outside talking, came over and explained the source. It's wasn't even from Munster. The "leak", as is stated in this article

Looks bigger than the word "leak" implies. Especially if it can be strongly smelled all the way to my house from 169th & Ridgeland.
Overall, many houses were evacuated, electricity was shut off, and the gas pipe is now closed as well.
Oh damn! I just heard a firework go off nearby with a resounding boom. Not like usual. Idiots. Gas leak + fireworks = problems. Yes, definitely a problem. I do not want to go boom! 0_o;;;;
