LOG:
Neku’s routine in Ceriu has settled into something that’s close to clockwork.
Like any normal teenager, he sleeps in until mid-morning - then he’s up to grab a shower, get dressed in whatever’s lying around, rummage through the leftover food in the kitchen to find something for breakfast, fill up the dog bowl that he found in the observatory with chicken feed so that the chicken has something to eat, then grab his NEXUS and his duffel bag full of paints and head out of the apartment for the day. It’s normally too cold in the morning to go outside and paint, so that means that he heads off towards the library to spend a few hours reading through the resources there. After that, he pokes around the cafeteria to find something edible for lunch, then heads out to the spot outside where he’s been painting. Once the sun starts setting and the air gets chilly again, he heads back to the apartment, and… takes the chicken on a walk through the halls. ( He’s hoping that it’ll end up laying eggs if it gets healthier. ) Then, he normally spends the rest of the night bumming around the apartment with Josh before crashing to sleep. … and, of course, he’s got the network and a partner to keep tabs on all day.
It’s nothing big or heroic, but it makes him feel like he’s doing something. It’s enough to make him feel like he’s not just sitting around uselessly on his hands, and it’s enough to make sure that he’s… distracted from the reality of the situation that they’ve been thrust into. He’s studying, he’s working, he’s growing -- if he keeps moving forward, maybe something will happen that’ll end up changing things for the better.
-- So, it’s mid-morning, and that means that Neku is parked at his usual station in Ceriu’s library, chin propped up on one hand and headphones plugged into the NEXUS - he figured out how to set the device’s Text-to-Voice application to read him the books that he finds, so he’s been letting it read to him while he listens. … or, well, while he tries to listen. He’s a teenager in high school, and even though he’s smart, most of the scientific texts are filled with so much jargon and nerd-speak that it’s hard to slog through one of them and come out the other side knowing what the hell they’re talking about.
… Which is why Neku is using the NEXUS’s drawing app to doodle, pretending like he’s focusing on the droning monotone of the NEXUS as it outlines the various scientific theories behind the time and multidimensional travel that the scientists at SPHERE have been developing.
. . .
That yawn is a pretty good indication of his current interest level.
