[ When it comes to working out his thoughts, Neku just isn't the journaling kind.
Instead, he's spent the past few weeks painting the walls of his living room -- translating the whirlwind of thoughts inside his head into shapes, colors, and patterns -- until he's managed to swallow up all the white of the four walls with a veritable explosion of color. And, nah, he knows it's not nearly as good as anything that CAT would do, but... it feels good, working out his frustrations through a medium that he understands. Things like Joshua getting put in stasis, or the Grim Heaper showing up, or having to steel himself to go face whatever shape Shibuya's in, or even the beacon dragging out a memory that he definitely didn't want to revisit -- crap like that, he couldn't control, and he was having a hard time of shaking off that feeling of being helpless. But this he could control -- pick the colors he wanted, say whatever he wanted, and spend some time just clearing out his head. Besides, filling in the walls with his own graffiti makes this place feel like his; he's starting to think of the room as his and not Joshua's.
... and finally, it's done. He's completely run out of free wall space in the living room, and now he's sprawled in the middle of the floor -- staring up at the ceiling and wondering if he should splash color all over that, too. If anyone happens to wander by his room, he's got the door propped open with the chicken's cage to let the outside ventilation air out his room, so the sight of him stretched out in the middle of his room is probably visible from the hall. ]
. . . [ After a few moments of contemplating the walls of his room, Neku fumbles for his NEXUS, flicking it to the video feature. There's a quick, blurred shot of the newly painted walls before he turns the camera around to face him, enough to see color without detail. ] ... I was wondering. ... the beacons -- you think the scientists just sent 'em out randomly, or you think they had some... I dunno, master plan in place?
... I mean, there's a ton of different people here, and some of them actually seem like they know what they're doing, but some people... [ A pause, and then an eyeroll. ] ... make useless an understatement. I guess it would just feel better if... [ He frowns. ] ... they picked us for a reason, y'know?
[ It'd feel better to think that someone had a plan of action, maybe that's it. Either way, he shrugs, and the video feed flickers to black. ]
