[A cluster of illegible text comes into view. Nothing of it seems to hold reason, nothing of it seems to hold any sense. It is as if the owner of the device is either pressing buttons in a fit of spontaneity or in a moment of rage is continusiously slamming the poor piece of technology against the nearest object. [excuse her, she's mildly horrified. what is he, a babboon?]

...Are you trying to take your Nexus apart?

[no madam, he thinks it's cursed. Please though, have his own horrified reply when he realizes the thing is speaking to him.]

In the name of god above it has voice.

[she hasn't quite dealt with cavem-- err. individuals of ancient eras. even fang and vanille would have known how to handle these gizmos, they were countless centuries old in cocoon's time.

...she'll at least make the attempt to understand and instruct, as it seems necessary.]

This is a communication device that allows you to contact any other person who owns one just like it. You really shouldn't try to break it. I'm not sure if replacement is immediately possible.

[please keep in mind that even if instructions were given before, the dai is not one to trust nor understand fully this madness--he'll get the hang of it, one can hope.]

Why on earth would I want to replace such a thing as yourself?

[it might be the medication that has been unknowingly been injected into his bloodstream, or it might just be his foul temper. Normally a man of delightful reason, this is a whole new playing field.]

You are unnatural.

Perhaps to you, but this is your only means of contacting any other person from wherever you may find yourself.

[...oh. she gets it now. she nearly smacks her palm against her face, but instead...]

[she opens a video transmission, setting the camera square on her face to show her undeniable humanity.]

I am a person, not a machine. I am currently located in the Courtyard, but you are able to contact me from wherever you are without having to be nearby and face-to-face. Long-distance communication, if you'd like to call it that.

Do you understand?

[when the video transmission begins he nearly jumps but simply only narrows his eyes, his singular hand bringing up the horrible device to get a better look. It only brings a severe expression to follow because of course! Use the image of an rather attractive woman to sway a man -- is that not how persuasions could be met?]

Do not try to fool me with your false representation.

[he obviously does not understand or is simply far too stubborn to admit it openly because this madness does not make any sense, whatsoever.]

I know your kind can make themselves out to be any image they like.

[...........she doesn't even.]

My kind? I'm a human, sir. I eat, breathe, and bleed just like you.

If a personal confrontation is need to convince you, give me your location and I... will assist you with your technical capabilities.

[or lack thereof.]

[this glare. You can have it.]

Prove it, demon.

[if you look carefully--you can tell that he is certainly a very medical and very whitewashed area. Is he going to give you a location? A cold day in hell.]

[Demon. Right, she totally isn't going to back out of this now. Temper tested, she pinpoints the medical setting and makes her way to the infirmary. While she isn't spitting flames or groaning maliciously down the spotless corridors, her footfalls sound hard on the glossy floors, not quite stomping out her annoyance.

Peeking into each room, she eventually finds the one Malik is lying in and marches inside and stops some way from his bed. She doesn't look cross, but definitely miffed.]

You were saying?

[Hearing the footfalls from a distanced, he tensed slightly yet kept his gaze narrowed and stern--such was the norm for the man, who watched the familiar face walk into the area where he sat upright within the bed he had been assigned, arm still freshly wrapped with tainted bandages of his missing arm.

Ah, so there was a face and the faced of a woman mildly scorned. Not that he would pay it much mind but he bristled at the idea of the face upon the screen coming to sudden life. Shifting his attention down to the item within his hand he had planned on throwing, he then quickly looked back to the woman.]

There is something twisted in all this. [He grumbled, still too stubborn unable to force his mind to believe such a thing.]

[Lightning just shakes her head, unimpressed by the circumstance (and his stubborness), and lifts a hand to her hip. She takes note of the missing arm but doesn't press the matter since she isn't exactly nosy, and neither is this guy making a problem out of it. She wondered if it was caused by the virus or if it was a wound he suffered before arriving here. Maybe she'll find out in due time.]

I told you, it's a communication device. Is there nothing similar to it where you're from?

[Remaining tense at the situation, a huff of breath was his reply as he tossed the device down onto the end of the bed, knowing that if he were to keep it in-hand, the likelihood of it being thrown in the obvious direction would be far too tempting. Asides, there was nothing to concern himself with and quietly he had already resolved the item to being possessed or cursed in some manner and this woman, certainly had something to do with it.]

Madam. [He began with that lovely snip of an undertone.] Communication within my realm involves the written word, word of mouth and is either transported by foot, horse, bird or lip, most certainly not by strange contraptions likely crafted in a curse.

[She doesn't quite understand why he's so wary of everything, but as she listens to his explanation, she's already seeing the problem and wonders just how she could explain these modern devices to a man like him.]

I assure you there are no curses behind any of this. All it is are cables, programming, and electricity.

[a pause, as she tries to think of something she can take apart to show him. ...she checks her pockets and pouch, remembering she might still have a wireless earpiece.]

Names might allow some comfort. I'm Lightning. I've been in Ceriu for a couple weeks now, and I'm trying to do what I can to help this world in order to save mine. The place I'm from is called Cocoon, and though we also pass messages on to others by the means you've mentioned, we also use technology for assistance because sometimes humans or animals can't be relied on, especially for the time it takes to get from one place to another.

[Finally, fishing out the earpiece, she slowly steps closer to him, holding the apparatus in her palm and studying its ( ... )

[Good luck explaining, but he'll listen--simply because he's still slightly perturbed by the fact that the woman standing before him was once within the device and yet somehow came to locate him. All's fair in love and war but this is a little over his head. Still, he's not a man without reason and can try his best to wrap his head around it, but he is a man who thinks this all is a little particular, a little too much like the cursed arts.

Yet, when introductions were shared, he wrinkled his nose somewhat before tasting the name amongst his thick accent.]

Lightning? [His brows furrowed with suspicion. He had never heard of such a world before as Cocoon, nor lands. His only suspicion was that it was to the east of the lands of his home but with her understanding of the bizarre technology, he was certain even that could not be true.]

I've never read nor heard of such a place before as your home, yet if it shares such commonality with manners of communication within this place, then it's roots must be questionable.
