Move Like a Butterfly is a
The Venture Brothers fan comic created/drawn by
Tigerman-exe colored/edited by me,
Riyo-Nakamori, and partially co-written by
Vixenated who also apparently took over doing the speech bubbles for page ten.
The Venture Brothers is a show on Cartoon Network's [Adult Swim]*, and if you have not seen it, please, I beg you to look it up.
It focuses on Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture, his two sons Hank and Dean, their now-former bodyguard Brock Samson, Sargeant Hatred, The Monarch and his wife, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, the organization they belong to called The Guild of Calamitous Intent, two protagonist groups known as Sphinx and the OSI, Pete White and Billy Quizboy, Dr. Orpheus and The Triad, and a slew of other epic characters.
At least four times an episode I laugh my ass off, and at least two times an episode I say "they did what?"
The Venture Brothers was created by Christopher McCulloch, Jon Schnepp, Jackson Public, Doc Hammer, Ben Edlund and all the
other wonderful people involved behind the scenes and who do the voices. Some of my favorite voice actors have worked on this show, including H. Jon Benjamin, Patrick Warburton, Brendon Small, Dana Snyder, Stephen Colbert, Doc Hammer, Jame Urbaniak and Christopher McCulloch himself. Among others in a wonderfully talented cast.
>Move Like a Butterfly focuses specifically on The Monarch's henchman number 21, who is going insane after trauma which occurred at the end of Season 3, and seems to be slowly spiraling down and out of sanity during Season 4, and becomes rather ruthless and a perfect soldier by mid-season, while either being haunted by or hallucinating a dead friend.
The comic is told from the perspective of Henchman number 69, an original character created by Tigerman-exe. So we don't get a lot of perspective into 21's thoughts and feelings, we only have what the show says is canon to go by. It's meant to be an augmentation to the storyline, showing some of the between episode things, and scenes that occurred between the scenes in the show.
I started reading this comic pretty much from the beginning. It came to my dA inbox through one of the Venture Bros. groups that I watch. She looked at my coloring and asked me to do the colors for her comic, and I said yes, of course! How could I say no, given such an honor as to work on a great comic about one of my favorite shows? Then she also let me do some editing for her, to make sure 21's dialogue makes sense with his character, since I seem to apparently have a better understanding of the characters speech patterns and mental state. (I've researched a LOT of things over the years, psychology just one of many, and I'm an anthropologist at heart.) I've only colored three pages so far, and am already apparently an integral part of the MLaB team.
I'd be sincerely honored if you'd take a look, tell me what you think, even bookmark it if you like it. I've got my coloring technique down, I can pump out a great page in a day, but it takes her time to draw the lines, so we update about once a week, roughly. I hope you enjoy it, we really do try to keep it canon as much as we can where 21 is concerned.
* I am addicted to [Adult Swim] so much it isn't even funny anymore. All of my favorite shows in the last four years that are also cartoons are pretty much all [Adult Swim] shows. I miss having it, and really need to get my American satellite back.
