Did you ever wonder why all the emo kids read The Perks of Being a Wallflower? For some strange reason, I haven't. I want to, but I haven't. I hate being emo.
Try:
White Oleander by Janet Fitch The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides Le Divorce by Diane Johnson The Effect of Living Backwards by Heidi Julavits
They're all nice, light, sappy and hormonal.
As for me, I'm in the midst of reading Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. It's the cutest thing ever.
You know how I got Perks into my list? I took a quiz on OK!Cupid called something like "What Book Should You Read Next?", and that was the first title that came up. >:D
My copy of A Hundred mysteriously disappeared, remember?
Two teenagers struggle with identity and self-determination in Dermansky's entertaining debut. To the casual observer, twins Chloe and Sue are exactly the same-even their father mixes them up sometimes. Of course, Chloe understands that they're very different people, but Sue wants nothing more than to be one with Chloe, whom she's convinced is prettier, smarter and nicer. The chapters alternate between the voices of Sue and Chloe, moving quickly but seamlessly through their high school years with their attendant dramas and tragedies. Ah, Deskitty. Since someone already suggested something by Sarah Dunant, I'd recommend 'The Birth of Venus'. And if you're into Mr. Coelho, 'Veronika Decides To Die' is a personal favorite.
Monty, do you have a copy of Veronika? I'mma borrowin' from you.
I'm getting another Haruki Murakami novel today, Sputnik Sweetheart. I think you'd like what I just finished, Dance Dance Dance. Peep too. It made me go @_@!!!
The guy is good. I'll proudly lend my copy wrapped in a sarong.
