[The clock strikes 12:00. Nothing happens except for the annoying video broadcast over the TV. Bazett lets out a sigh of relief. She had been on edge for much of December 31st, preparing for whatever disaster Mayfield would throw at them. Now, it seems that at least this holiday would be allowed to pass ( Read more... )

Don't hold your breath. I bet it's only a matter of time.

I believe I will be well prepared when that time comes.

[Now that he mentioned it, the Thanksgiving apocalypse has also only come after the holiday was over.]

Good for you then. Hopefully you're not the only one.

[That's a lie. You should see his basement. Ever since the Thanksgiving attack he's been preparing for the worst every day.]

[Bazett also has some supplies in the basement, but not enough to prepare for the worst every day.]

I am sure that enough of the other residents have made preparations. There seem to be many people experienced in dealing with chaotic events here.

If I were you I wouldn't be too dependent on what other people have done or are able to do. You gotta take care of yourself and you can't always depend on other people to do that for you.

I see what you are saying, but I would still rather have allies. If anything, there is always someone to watch your back.

True enough. So long as you can trust them to stick by you even when it looks like they could die.

[Yeah, Axel's a skeptic. So sue him.]

Death is not permanent here. Even if they or I die, we will simply resurrect and regroup in a matter of hours.

Wow, dying really doesn't matter to you does it? Resurrection or no. Tell me, have you ever died before?

Yes. Once in my home universe and once here.

[Though the time in her home universe did not really count as "death," seeing how only her heart had stopped.]

My superior has assured me that dying is not so bad once you get used to it.

[His actual words had been "You were stabbed in the heart. It might hurt now, but it will be less painful the second time around."]

[Wow. Honest. Didn't expect that.]

Is death permanent where you come from?

[Because it doesn't sound like it is.]

Under normal circumstances, yes. I simply had a superior who was...very good at surgery.

Inhumanly so from the sounds of it.

[He mumbled that bit, not really meaning to say it out loud.]

My advice would be to not die, but to each their own I suppose.

Thank you. I will take your advice into account.

[She does not wish to die. She also knows that her allies do not wish to die. It was a painful experience physically and mentally. Even if the trauma decreased each time, it never completely went away.]

[This is why they have to stick together. If they watched each other's backs, they had a smaller chance of dying or becoming injured.]
