1. Arrival
[Bazett Fraga McRemitz wakes up with a start. Her head is heavy and her body feels strange in a way that she can't put her finger on.]

What happened?

[A quick look around tells her that this isn't her Japanese hotel room. For one thing, it's too large and the furnishings are completely different. For ( Read more... )

[Well, this is a new face.]

I take it you've had a long day.

[Bazett glances at the man and decides to try to ignore him. However, he seems to be expecting a reply and she decides that to refuse to give him even a short answer would be inappropriate.]

You could say that.

How about a drink or two? First one is on the house.

No, but thank you.

[She'll buy her own drinks.]

[He shrugs.]

Well, if you do need a drink, make sure you flag down one of the actual people here, not the drones, they won't serve you.

Oh?

[This is an interesting, though strange, piece of advice.]

If they refuse to serve you, why do they still work here?

They don't refuse to serve everyone, just women. Apparently in this perfect world, women don't drink.

Ah.

[She supposes she should repay him for the information that he had just offered.]

Where I come from, they do not have this discrimination against women. There is little gender discrimination in general, even though there are other biases.

[At least, that was how it worked with mages.]

They don't where I'm from either. We've got more than a fair share of women who could take even the strongest of men.

Doesn't mean I don't like treating them nice though.

[She raises an eyebrow. Interesting. Did it mean that he was a mage as well? She cannot tell at this point.]

So I suppose you are a courteous person? You should still be careful, though. What you consider a courtesy could easily offend others.

[Such as going easy on them in a fight.]

Like that.

[She frowns.]

Don't call me that.

Really?

[No on has ever had a problem with that before...actually they might have...he's all ears now.]

Any other advice?

[Well, he asked for it.]

Try not to be too friendly to strangers, you might rouse suspicion. Do not try to flirt with every member of the opposite gender; some might not be interested. Try not to use sexual nicknames. Always make sure that you know something that the other person does not.

Not sure if I can do all of that, but just knowing is a start, I guess.

[She nods and relaxes her guard just a little. This man is certainly willing to listen, so it brings her initially low opinion of him up somewhat.]

Where I come from, Information is both power and currency. You are always better off knowing, or seeking out the information if you do not know.
