Entangle

He had a mental picture of Sai that was so strong, he looked for him at every tournament he attended, as if he might really find him. Sai was definitely male, though at times, he chided himself for being so closed-minded. He couldn't describe it, but he'd played his games with Sai, and his son's game with him, enough times that he had a feeling about him. Male, and soft-spoken, Japanese, somewhat mousy... He wouldn't stand out in a crowd, but he had longer hair than normal, wore simple clothes, and had traditional manners. Since he played online only, he might have some sort of disfigurement, perhaps of one of his hands, making it hard to handle stones.

Without a doubt, if he ever saw him in person, he would recognize Sai. He would go right up to him and ask him to play. If he refused, he would ask if he would like some tea. Sai wouldn't be a drinker. Neither was Kouyo, but they could find somewhere to talk. Kouyo wasn't a great conversationalist, but with Sai, it would be different. He wasn't arrogant enough to suggest that he had never before met a rival, however there was a certain kind of special pressure he had often read of in go texts. Kuwabara-sensei was fond of waxing poetic on the subject as well, something Kouyo had tolerated with silent calm before, but he finally understood the concept.

He never pushed Shindou-kun to give him more details about Sai. He never would. If he did, he might find out. Sai was no longer in the world. He couldn't bear to hear that.

It was too lonely.
