Beautifully, beautifully done! It's a very original idea (on both fronts as far as I know: Sai still being there and Akiko knowing how to play), and you pull it off wonderfully. Great job. :)
Thanks! I believe Akiko knowing how to play has been done a couple of times, but I think those authors just ignored (or weren't aware of) the canon line in which she says she doesn't know much about Go.
Ah, I see you decided to focus on another female character in this story. Again, Akiko is portrayed with a quiet strength. I think it's particularly interesting how Sai learns to yearn and appreciate the world outside of go through watching her. Her sacrifice is touching.
It's a special torment that Sai must be put through, being able to watch but not interact. No wonder he feared becoming a vengeful spirit. But he did need to mature (he's more wise than passionate, and has a lot of growing up to do in the series, just like Hikaru).

I think Akiko would have had difficultly avoiding Go with the life she’s had and Ive always suspected her of being secretly good at it.
