How tight is Uber in our minds? Most recently, it would seem that we used to take the services of taxi parks, used to call them, and order it in advance, and pay cash to the driver "in hand". This type of passenger transportation was chaotic, poorly regulated and exclusive to many of us.
Today, similar situation is in the field of commercial logistics of goods. Transport companies figure a whole layer of large, medium and large enterprises that serve billions of goods around the world. There is a high competition among them. Large trans-national and federal companies annually conduct tenders for the selection of contractors to service their large volumes of transportation, achieving the best prices and high level of service. However, other customers are forced to work with less reliable carriers, regulate their relationship with the counterparty on their own, which often leads to internal logistic departments that manage cargo shipments from the client side.
At the same time, transport companies either stay with long and large contracts, or are in constant search of customers, while bearing the cost of maintaining their fleet on a permanent basis. Demand is difficult to forecast, "downtime" is formed, which negatively affects the price of services, which is overestimated to cover basic expenses.
At the same time, the relations of the parties are regulated solely by the legislation of the country rendering services, and all the communities and associations that are established are not in fact the real link between the companies with the clients.
And what if organize a service similar to uber in the field of truck transport? Consolidate all transport companies into a single system, as it was done with taxis, create clear and clear rules for users and provide customers with the opportunity to quickly order the required truck through a user-friendly interface?
On the other hand, customers will be able to place both permanent orders for scheduled regular shipments and extraordinary ones. Exactly as it is done with passenger transportation, it is possible to diversify categories of trucks by tonnage and capacity, offer a price range and add services.
In the classic "passenger" uber there are additional services convenient for passengers (child seats, loading and unloading of suitcases), same for cargo transportation - it is possible to add loading-unloading service, packing, waiting fee or using a toll road. In fact, the truck driver will partially fulfill the role of the freight forwarder, i.e. every cargo must be insured and transferred to the inventory.
It is also necessary to add a rating system, but if in the case of passenger service a personal factor is very important, within cargo delivery the rules of ‘B2B game’ takes place and rating is created to companies by companies. It is interesting that the rating system in this case will help both the client who will see the feedback of others on the speed of the truck delivery, the speed of movement and the main damage and theft rates, and contractors - while the risk of refusal to pay for services is minimized, the rating can show adequacy of the client and ease of interaction with it.
Of course, to launch such service, it would be ideal to receive some support at the state level, including preferential terms for a transportation tax, which would be of considerable interest to transport companies, and would also show the significance of the transition to this system of ‘uberization’ in the cargo transport sector.
