Everyone, go to Akash's old homepage at www.msu.edu/~kumaraka and click on "Photos" at the top. These are old-ass photos from freshman year. I've enjoyed lookng back at them as the years have gone by, and I hope he never takes them down.
And now a poem from Akash himself, that I'm only posting because I was thinking the exact same thoughts last week, after I woke up from a dream where I was with a group of friends, and J. was there, and wouldn't let me embrace him (stay out of my dreams, you punk-ass Pollack, you!):
"At 3AM
Usually I can forget you like an old wound mostly healed,
exceptions are long nights like this
when everyone is asleep and I am only half awake and half mourning
alone in the silence of my small dark room
Staring at the flickering picture on your homepage.
On nights like this,
just before dawn,
I sense you creeping, stealthily tip toeing
tinkering somewhere behind my concious thoughts-
a tiny beautifull spy playing
mysterious games in the nooks and cranies of my conciousness
I don't understand: Why are you still there? Why won't you stay
forgotten?"
Good stuff, man, after all this time.
