I'm going to do this but to be perfectly frank I'm more hoping that other people will post theirs so I can see if there's something I can do - I'm not so hung up on having my list fulfilled. I'm actually kinda worried about getting to 10 with things that are reasonable because I doubt anyone has a pony or Sean Bean going spare ;) So please put up a list for me and all your friends, you never know!
The pony's for Hazel. Really.
The Rules:
Step One
- Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ.
Step Two
- Surf around your friends list (or friends friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. You an also check out this post
http://fabricdragon.livejournal.com/127623.html because she lists lots of charities you can give or craft for for the holidays. There's also a LJ group ([info]holiday_wishes) where folks post lists like this) And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use - or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf - to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. Fabric. I love beautiful fabric and freely admit that I have a bit of a problem in that regard. But hey, if someone gives it to you you'd be churlish to refuse right?
2. Anything hand-knitted or crocheted for me or Hazel. I wish I knew how to knit but I don't and am forced to rely on the charity of others.
3. Sewing books - new or old, any kind. Quilting, clothes, dolls, whatever.
4. Good chick lit. Hey, my brain needs a holiday occasionally alright?
5. DVDs - Pride and Prejudice (original BBC series), Jeeves and Wooster, Poirot, Miss Marple - the real deal or ahem, obtained by other means.
6. Christmas ornaments - hard to find nice ones here so anything glass, retro, or especially handmade would be fabulous.
7. Graham Oakley 'Church Mouse' books. Bit of a punt because they're not common but I adore them and so does Hazel although I think they're more written for adults but hey, they have cats and mice having adventures so what's not to like all 'round? I have a few but more always welcome.
8. Plant cuttings - our garden is sort of 'cottagey' old-fashioned so anything that would grow well here in Auckland would be neat. This is obviously only for in-country people because anything from overseas will get confiscated at the border and I'll be arrested and fed to giant wetas.
9. A balloon ride. I've always wanted one, never had the opportunity.
10. A good hair straightener, one of the slimline ones.
