Circle: Pokaka
Pairing: KagaKuro<--Kise Akashi

Notes: so when I first saw this I almost couldn't resist. I mean, I live in the area. I went to Kyoto 2 weeks ago, for God's sake (and I've been there more than 15 times in the last 2 years - nobody can ever tell me I didn't travel in Japan). Still, I'm glad that I got it on sale <3

So I hadn't read Pokaka's other KagaKuro<--Kise work, but I suspect it's much the same style of humor and art. She draws her lines thicker - that's the very first thing I noticed - and she tends to fill up the background with...stuff... Not that I'm complaining! It doesn't detract from the characters themselves so I have no complain. She uses a lot of tones too - on the whole her style seems darker for it, not in mood but like, actually - but again it doesn't detract so I'm still alright with it. Her characters expressions, while simple and...don't have the faint nuances that say, Tanaka or Ko-man, seem to capture, are simple like the story and the jokes itself.
That is to say, this story is a very, very far cry from KUD2's "
Suki de" or PantherS' "pure malice" (all about Aomine comforting Kise after he's raped by Haizaki), so much it's almost uncharacteristic of me (yes, I know I have a tendency to gravitate towards brooding, introspective and depressing pieces). It's very lighthearted and features the four characters (Kagami, Kuroko, Akashi and Kise) exploring Akashi's hometown of Kyoto together. Akashi is acerbic, psychotic, and all-knowing. Kise is a pining puppy who nevertheless doesn't exactly hate Kagami (difficult for both sides to deal with). Kagami is on the fence about everything, including Kuroko, even when it smacks him in the face. Kuroko seems to be the only one who knows exactly what he wants.
(Akashi is definitely my favorite. Trying to make Kagami and Kuroko fit his 'research' in BL manga? PRICELESS.)
The main reason I bought this book though, was to see if they actually visit all the places I visit. And they do - just...damn. If they managed to fit all of those places in one day, they must've gotten up really freaking early. Kyoto is NOT a small city...ahem okay enough tour guide talk.
