Bendix spring compressor

Apr 30, 2010 13:49

Started making it, but I find that I don't have a complete Bendix assembly to look at, in particular, I don't have the fat washer which goes on after the spring and has a groove for the circlip.  I need the O/D of that washer, if anyone has one to hand and can measure it.  I recall it being slightly smaller than the spring, so the plate which is ( Read more... )

I haven't got one to hand immediately, but I'll ask Geoff tonight when he gets home.

I'm going to Rushden rally over the weekend, probably tomorrow - are there any Minor bits that you're looking for?

not sure yet, it's being pre-mot-ed.

one thing it will likely need is the outer sill panels, that long thin bit under the doors. It shouldn't be an MOT fail, but it's had seat belts fitted and might come under the "within 12" rule. Mind, I told the garage chap that if that were the case I could remove the belts, being 1958 it doesn't have to have them fitted :-)

further thought: if you chance across any trafficator parts in proper order, they'd come in handy. The orange bits are not in that good nick and neither of them actually stay put without insulting tape. I think the shiny bits are OK.

I can get new orange bits, though I forget how much - be worth a check on prices for new ones, I guess, to avoid paying over the odds.

OK; I'll keep a lookout for outer sill panels and trafficator parts. If I find any, I'll give you a ring from the site - not sure I've got your current mobile number so perhaps you could drop me an email.

Let's make sure I've got the car details right - 1958 1000 saloon, 4-door?

Thought it was - that'll save me looking back at the pics.

I've just got a new phone (LG GW520) last week, after the display on the Nokia b0rked. I had to re-gather people's numbers from other places; I think yours is newer than 3 years old so should be OK.

Just another thought - it might be worth your joining the Morris Minor Owners' Club. They have lots of spares sellers advertising in the club magazine; they also have their own spares holdings for sale.

It's not been any problem so far finding suppliers online. But MMOC will get due consideration, at some point, especially if I need anything unusual.

There are some spares supposedly on the way, including a gearbox which it sounds like it'll need: first and reverse have a nasty knock which is probably a damaged tooth or so. Other gears aren't bad. The speedo behaves a bit erratically so might be looking for one of those sometime... had this with the LR ones in the series, sometimes they get to waving around wildly somewhere in the general vicinity of the correct speed.

I'd hazard a guess that the speedo cable might be the problem with the lashing needle - certainly was on my Sierra after it got displaced and started to rub inner on outer.

No trafficator parts at Rushden unfortunately, apart from some very duff ones. The sill panels ought to be available from the MMOC if you can't get them from other dealers.

I've sent you an email, with a couple of photos of Geoff's drawings of the Bendix parts attached; I hope they'll be useful.

aye, I can get the parts, but if you'd chanced on some in tidy nick - no matter, the garage have yet to pre-test it and tell me what still needs doing...

We'll always keep an eye out for useful bits and pieces right through the season; the last one we go to is Henham in September. Are there any local shows within range of you, that might have autojumble stalls?
