I have a confession to make: I've really gotten into Vocaloid music.
Specifically, the songs by Hachi and the videos that go with them.
I KNOW, I KNOW. I'M KIND OF ASHAMED TO SHARE THIS, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I REALLY WANT TO
because goddamn I don't know how people manage animation and music this nice just as a hobby and not for school or work or anything. Plus I am quite fond of the eclectic aesthetic presented- it's a big influence on my own work, Overworld.
Wonderland and the Sheep's Song, my absolute favorite. The video is utterly gorgeous and the song itself has a great energy and feel to it.
World's End Umbrella, a melancholy narrative video with another great style. To be honest, this post is just as much about the Southern Research Institute as it is about Hachi.
Matryoshka, arguably the most recognizable of Hachi's Vocaloid works. This one's got a striking style and manic energy, and the PV's by Hachi, rather than the Southern Research Institute.
Panda Hero, a song that appears to be a darker Matryoshka B-side. I detect influence from FLCL in here...
Clock Lock Works, again by another animator, has arguably the most interesting message out of all of the videos here. I'll leave the interpretation to you guys, but I will point out the synchronization of the repeated animation motifs with the music itself. It's pretty awesome.
Dreameater On the Sand, the sole Luka song out of the set. Another beautiful and stylish video, with a lovely song.
Domino Taoshi. It may not be a Hachi song (I-I really have no idea), but the video is so excellent that I had to include it in this post.
O-okay, I don't know if this counts as cheating, but the song was made with Vocaloids. All 156 of the 5th-generation Pokemon! Think of it as a surreal Japanese cousin to the Pokerap.
Speaking of Pokemon and Vocaloid, here's a Black and White-themed parody version of Matryoshka. Okay, I'm an awful person, I know, but I can't help it.
A fandub that I actually like more than the original. It's by
chancake , who I did not realize had such a good voice!
The catchiest fucking song about unwanted pregnancy you'll ever hear.
And that's that! My horrible terrible augh I'm sorry Vocaloid video/music recs for you all.
