I love this story. I am totally addicted to it. Rates up there with Home and Atlas. The whole story is very interesting and Pike and Archer are very well done. I can not wait for more. I'll probably reread the first chapter and this one three more times while I wait.

I felt I needed to show that as much as he has come to love and respect Chris, he knows he needs to handle things as much as he possibly can by himself in order to keep his "unusual condition" a secret. Of course, he's only 16, and as much bravado as I seem to remember having at that time (and it was usually even more obvious among my male friends) sometimes you just want to curl up and let someone else take care of you, and when that option isn't available...

Oh, I do like this fic. Like, a lot. Your teen!Jim characterization is very nice indeed - he's perfectly funny and clever and terribly lonely. The scene with his conversation with Winona was excellent, lovely tension and complex relationship. I really like that they still talk, that she didn't just go nuts or ignore him. And I really like how Jim pretends to be so jaded about her, but he really does still care about her and her opinion of him.
Also, hurt!Jim. I am a sucker for that kind of thing. I'm on the edge of my seat for the next part! ^^
With Winona, I wanted to show that she had been completely overwhelmed when everything happened (in UaAS,) and was still trying to process it. Straw that broke the camel's back and all that. I think it's been easy for people to write her as completely negligent, but I didn't want to do that here.
