Running Just to Stay in Place

Jul 19, 2010 11:10

It's been a while since I've posted. I keep meaning to get online, and just take a day to get my LJ caught up. Post photos I've taken, and write about the places I've been. It just doesn't get done. Work is busy, and when I am at home, I am either trying to get stuff done there, or just wanting to vegetate in front of the TV or a computer game. I'm not sure when or if I will ever get all that back-dated-entry stuff caught up.

There is just too much to do IRL...

I have about another week at home before I have to leave for GenCon and Pennsic. I'll be running Tomas' booth at GenCon, as Tomas and Susan will be at Pennsic the entire time. I will join them there once GenCon is over.

Aside from that, there are always things that need to get done at home.
  • The gutters on the house have to be cleaned and gutter-guards installed before the end of summer. Last winter we had a minor water issue with the gutters freezing and water getting into the house. I don't want that happening again. Need to find and hire somebody.
  • The basement brickwork needs to be looked over and the masonry around the cellar door repaired, so we can get a new cellar door installed. Need to get some estimates, and hire someone.
  • The masonry in the basement needs to be cleaned up, perhaps repaired a bit, and sealed. There isn't lots of water getting in anymore, but it is still damp down there, and we have the beginnings of a mold issue down there, which could become bad news if ignored.
  • Once the water issues have been taken care of, then I need to address getting the house re-wired and re-insulated. The old house bleeds heat/AC, and it makes our power bills outrageous when the temps outside are extreme.
  • An attic fan needs to be installed, so we have better air circulation upstairs.

I joined Angie's List, hoping it would be helpful, but the reviews in our area aren't really very dense yet. I'll be sure to add reviews of whomever we hire.

  • I have half the fabric needed for another ren outfit, but I need to find some chocolate brown 100% cotton jacquard. I can't find any anywhere. Even the site I bought the beautiful avocado cotton jacquard at doesn't have what I want (they don't have the avocado anymore, either).
  • I need to keep cleaning my way through the boxes in the basement. When we first moved, I was doing well, but then the progress stalled out. I don't even remember what is in some of those boxes anymore.
  • Phil needs a new desk and office shelves. One of the old ones partly collapsed under the weight of all our books, sitting there for years.
  • We've had plans for a while to get custom shelving made for the gaming/dining room. I need to measure and draw plans.

What have I been doing lately?
  • I did get the basement windows replaced earlier this year! That is at least some progress. The most acute cause of wet basement has been taken care of.
  • I drew up plans for a cabinet for Mark; Phil's dad made it for us. We're scheduling a "delivery date" for sometime at the end of the month. Just waiting until the sealer thoroughly cures so it doesn't irritate Mark's breathing. It was made for the house. I think it will be awesome once it is installed.
  • I joined FaceBook yesterday... Not that it is something that I needed to do, but relatively few of the people I know are on LJ...
  • I did a significant purge of my closet, and cleared out an entire large tub of stuff I can't/won't wear anymore.
  • All 4 cats had their annual vet visit a couple days ago. All are in fine health. It is quite a juggle though, to get them all out at once.
  • Most of my houseplants have died, and I've been clearing away the pots and such. All my CPs perished... I would love to start growing them again, but right now I know I don't have the time, so I'm making myself wait until I get other things caught up.
