Update 2: GenCon

Aug 21, 2008 11:23

After one day at home, I was back on the road, this time to GenCon in Indianapolis. In that one day at home, I had to help Tomas repack the truck (again). We didn't bring the whole trailer, thankfully.

We left a couple hours later than planned on Wednesday morning (no surprise there). We still arrived in plenty of time, thankfully. The marshal yard for merchants was surprisingly efficient. We got set up just fine. The only downside was that the convention center hadn't turned on the AC yet in the exhibit hall, so it was very hot and stuffy that day.

Sales at the con were good. We were quite busy. I couldn't get the metal dice polished fast enough. Even the dice hairpins were selling, and I wasn't sure they would.

On Thursday and Friday nights we played Witch Hunter after the dealer's room closed. It was great fun, as usual. My swashbuckling character had a religious experience, and may end up a saint yet! ;P Saturday we were too tired, and Sunday was pack up and leave day.

I finally met Kevin Cook and a couple other folks from the Dice Maniacs' Fan Club. Kevin is a trip! I also, of course, bought *way* too many dice, for which I am unrepentant! I brought home a special unique set of Cthulhu dice from Q-Workshop, as well as the Wicked Munchkin die, Pathfinder dice, and several random selections that came out of the swag bags. I drooled over their stained glass d20. From Crystal Caste I scored one of their sets of bone dice, as well as one of the GenCon commemorative sets. I even managed to trade one of my dice hairpins for a set IN THE TIN. They got shorted on tins this year, so the tin sets were a hot item. At Chessex I got a set of their new glow-in-the-dark dice for Phil. I never found the GameScience booth, though I know they were there. :( I just didn't have the time to walk around that much.

Of course, Kevin was surprised that my job involved making dice. He wanted to know why I hadn't told him! Well, I don't pimp my job on my HOBBY list, for one. And further, this con was the first where I was pleased enough with the quality of our product that I was willing to advertise, although I wasn't going to tell him that! I am a total perfectionist when it comes to the dice. Even more so than Tomas! He'd been doing dice for years, but this year I was very happy with them.

On the whole, I had tons of fun! I'm just happy to be home right now, comfortable on my sofa, for a while. :)
