Even though this was kind of expected, even though I woke up to a one-set deficit, even though I've watched countless matches when he just faded in the decisive set for no apparent reason (especially after winning the second, thus momentum on his side and all, but apparently not for the GOAT), watching Roger Federer lose will never cease to suck.
I can't decide who I feel like swearing at more: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for playing so well again against Roger, or Roger for making me relieved at his winning one game to make it 1-5 in the third set. When he was down 0-5 and serving to barely stay alive in the match, my mind was flooded with horrible images of him actually being bagelled by someone other than Nadal. And it's not as if he gets bagelled by Nadal on a regular basis; he doesn't. If I remember right, the last time he received a bagel was during the 2008 French Open final, but his excuse was that he suffered from mono that year.
I really hate to admit this sometimes because in my mind, Roger Federer will always beat anyone on any given day when he's at his best; but today, this Tsonga once again outplayed Roger. How's that even conceivable? How does Roger Federer get outplayed? This is the new reality I guess. The guy just turned 30 on Monday, he's playing players 5 years younger, he's in the twilight of his career; such losses are bound to happen. I suppose at least he didn't lose in two tie-breaks to some random Ivan Dodig after being up 6-1 and 4-1 (or was it 3-1?) a la Nadal, who's supposed to be in his prime. Tsonga has always been a dangerous player, especially on fast-playing surfaces: huge serve, huge forehand. Someone I love seems to have this combination down pat in his dominating years...oh yeah, that's Roger.
Some of Tsonga's shots were quite Federeresque, as was his movement. I think I'm just resigned to this now, and hoping against realism that Roger wins his 17th slam sometime between now and the day that he retires. He's not getting any younger; his opponents, having claimed victories over him once, now believe that they can beat him; have I mentioned that he's not getting any younger?
Oh shit I'm just reminded that he got to the final last year. OMG WHY DID HE DRAW TSONGA WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY. WHY. He's totally not going to defend Cincinnati. I really want him to overtake Nadal as #2 and end the year ranked #2 (no one is gonna catch up to Djokovic) because it's just not right that he ends the year ranked anything but #1 and #2.
Then again, what does the ATP ranking matter? The ranking will naturally happen as he wins more matches; his rivals will naturally fall off the ranking as they lose more matches. RAFAEL NADAL, THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN, THANKS.
Anyway, except for the third set, he didn't play badly. He played a pretty solid second set and saved 3 break points to maintain his lead. Even when Tsonga was Too Good, Roger still matched him pretty evenly. His stupid stupid STUPID forehand errors in the third set were what cost him more than anything. I was shocked to see two mishit forehands long when he stepped in to take on a Tsonga return to a powerful first serve. That person right there? His name was Roger Olderer.
Oh well, I'm still happy that 1) I didn't watch the what must've been fucked up first set tie-break; and 2) I watched the awesome second set. I must admit that Tsonga/Federer matches produce awesome rallies. It's just too bad for me that nowadays Roger tends to lose these matches.
ROGER FEDERER YOU BETTER DEFEND YOUR CINCY CROWN OR I WILL BE REALLY SAD. AND PLEASE ANYONE BUT NADAL FOR THE US OPEN. I DON'T EVEN CARE IF IT'S DJOKOVIC; ANYONE BUT NADAL.

In other tennis news, this tournament officially sucks because even Maria Sharapova lost. All my favourites are out. Petra Kvitova lost to that horse Andrea Petkovic 1 and 2 - WTFLYINGF. Well, winning Wimbledon sure beats the hell out of winning some random tournament in Canada.
On a side note, Petkovic's face seriously pisses me off. I therefore have an irrational hatred towards her. I also think that her stupid "Petko-'dance'" victory celebration shit is the most embarrassing victory celebration that I've ever seen, besting even Radek Stepanek's worm shit - and this worm thing is really bad. I suppose it doesn't help that the first time I ever saw her play and her stupid dance nonsense was when she beat Maria in the Australian Open this year but who bloody cares. She sucks. I can't believe Petra lost to this.
